Information:
One of our most recent Autism NZ Canterbury Branch Holiday Programmes. The Timaru Holiday Programme was started in July 2009 and was been initially designed for Primary aged children between the ages of 5 and 13 years of age, and takes place at Oceanview Heights School in Timaru.
The inital uptake of the programme has been encouraging and this has now resulted in an expansion from Spring 2010 to enable us to incorporate the older age groups, thus helping to provide more services to the families in the area.
On average there are approximately 5 participants each day on this programme at present, some of these are staffed on a 1:1 basis, whilst others are based on a 1:2 (staff:child) ratio (depending upon the needs of the participant).
The programmes are designed to enable continuity for children during the school holidays whilst also providing valuable respite care for parents.
Programmes run on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday (9am until 3pm) during each of the school holidays, unless the day falls on a statutory holiday, and are designed to get the children to undertake activities which put them into a social environment as well as learning and developing new skills.
