Autism Holiday Programmes:

Autism NZ Canterbury Branch runs 4 seperate Holiday Programmes in the Christchurch area for children on the Autism Spectrum. These programmes are designed to enable continuity for children during the school holidays whilst also providing valuable respite care for parents. These programmes are staffed on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis (adult:children) to ensure the right level of care is provided.

The programmes run on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday (9am until 3pm) during each of the school holidays, unless the day falls on a statutory holiday, and are designed to get the children to undertake activities which put them into a social environment as well as learning and developing new skills.

Activities:

Ten-Pin Bowling Group:

Every Tuesday evening a small group meet at Garden City Bowl to 'socialise' and partake in ten-pin bowling. Each session costs $10 and runs for approximately an hour from 7pm. Each week the group enjoys their gathering, enabling them to undertake an indivdual task whilst also combining it with socialising skills.

We also welcome siblings and friends to come along and join in the fun if they wish to. The more the merrier.

Clip 'n' Climb Group:

Added to the collection of activities in 2009 is the popular Monday evening Clip 'n' Climb session at The Roxx. These sessions begin at 4pm and are run under the guidance of expert tutors at The Roxx Centre. The tutor involved has plenty of experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum and is on hand to encourage the children to partake in the activity and to conquer any fears people may have.

Each session costs just $8 and is payable on the door at The Roxx Climbing Centre, corners of Waltham Road and Byron Street.

Badminton Group:

** Now Monday ** evening sessions, between 4pm and 5pm, at Badminton Hall, Pages Road (next to Cowles Stadium) are run in conjunction with Badminton Canterbury and Special Olympics. These sessions are fun based and allow for skill development.

All ability levels are welcome to attend the sessions which are suitable for children over the age of 8 years to adults. The sessions are also good for family members to come along and join in as well as the group always requires people to hit the shuttle back!
