Autism New Zealand Conference 2014 “Where to Next for Autism? Looking to the Future” Call for papers, posters and other contributions

Submissions are invited for contributions to the national conference on Autism Spectrum Disorders: “Where to next for Autism? Looking to the future” to be hosted by Autism New Zealand, 22nd - 23rd August 2014 at the Rutherford Hotel, Nelson, New Zealand.

We are pleased to receive abstracts, describing papers or posters relating to autism spectrum disorders for the following streams:

  • Education and Beyond - Including schooling, training, tertiary education, employment and independent living. 
  • Living with ASD - Including lived experience of being on the autism spectrum / having and supporting a family member on the autism spectrum. 
  • Latest Research and Government Matters - Including legislation, funding, new and emerging research. 

Presentations can include personal stories and experiences, latest research or best practice/evidence based approaches. 


A key objective of the Autism New Zealand Conference is to provide people on the spectrum, families of people on the spectrum and professionals with practical applications of all research and papers presented. 

Therefore we would ask that all submissions include how their research or paper meets this requirement. 

Presentation Format: 

Papers will be accepted for presentations of 45 minutes duration (35 minutes + questions) or 1 hour (50 minutes + questions). Please state your preference (this will be subject to available timeslots). 

Abstracts/descriptions should not exceed 300 words and must include: 

The paper or presentation title, name and affiliation of author/s, topic keywords and themes. Full contact details must also be included: postal address, email and phone number.

Presenters and authors are also asked to include a short biography (100-200 word limit).

Posters should be no bigger than A0 (841mm x 1189mm).

Abstracts must be received by 30th April 2014.

Authors and poster presenters are asked to submit their abstracts or descriptions, along with their biography to:

If your abstract is chosen all presenters will be expected to register, and meet their own travel and accommodation expenses in Nelson.

The conference committee will review all papers received and acceptance or non-acceptance will be notified by 30th May 2014 or as soon thereafter as possible.
